The 3 Key Foam Dimensions You’ll Need
When ordering any foam cut to size, we need the three essential measurements:
🔹1. Length (Front to Back)
Measure from the front edge to the back edge across the seat base or cushion cover.
🔹 2. Width (Left to Right)
Take your measurement from one side to the other, across the widest point.
🔹 3. Thickness (Top to Bottom)
For standard seat cushions, this is usually 3–5 inches thick. Don’t include overstuffed or saggy bits measure the true foam depth.
Common Foam Shapes & How to Measure Them
We cut over 75 custom cushion shapes. Here’s how to measure a few popular ones:
🔸 Square or Rectangular
- Measure length × width × thickness
- Check all corners sometimes cushions are slightly tapered!
🔸 T-Shape
- Measure the central body first, then the arms/extensions separately
- Include a labelled sketch or photo for accuracy
🔸 Round or Curved
- Trace the base onto paper, cut it out, and upload as a template
- Or measure the widest point in both directions and mark it clearly
Common Mistakes to Avoid
- ❌ Measuring covers instead of actual foam
- ❌ Guessing thickness instead of confirming
- ❌ Rounding dimensions always provide decimals if needed
- ❌ Forgetting seam allowance (we’ll advise if needed)
✅ Tip: If you’re unsure, send us a photo or sample we’ll guide you to the perfect fit.

FAQs – Foam Measuring Questions Answered
❓ What if my cushion cover is larger than the foam?
Foam shrinks slightly over time. If your cover looks baggy, we can add a wadding wrap to restore volume.
❓ Should I round up or down?
Always round up to the nearest 5mm. It’s easier to trim foam than pad it out.
❓ Can I send you a template or photo?
Yes upload it with your order, or email us for support.
